View Full Version : Site Revenue?

11-19-2014, 05:44 AM
This topic comes up once again.

The theme overhaul that we promised is slowly in order. Unfortunately, lack of site revenue strikes again.

I've been thinking about this for a while, but I'm not sure whether to enable ads or do affiliate marketing or what. Please feel free to write your feedback on whatever is on your mind regarding this topic.

I wouldn't mind advertisements, as long as they're not obnoxious or too distracting. I'll be happy with whatever you decide on to keep this wonderful forum going. ^^

Well, I don't really mind ads, as long as they not NSFW or just pop up everywhere. Do what you think is best.

I'm fine with whatever we decide to do.

Ads are fine. ( when they are not on pop-ups )

Just issue an official statement deterring people from abusing ads-clicking. If they like the product, they should go on and inform themselves, but forcefully clicking ads is bad.
Generally a normal user thinks " I'll click this advertisement tons for the greter good of this fine website ".
Then, comes google adsense that blacklists the site.

Im all for ads, just make sure the mobile site doesnt get too cluttered (its already quite cluttered as is)

What you think is best for the forum is a good option. I personally think the happy medium, something not too obnoxious/interfering but something that will and should be noticeable, is a good general idea.

insider news: "Saya is the only one in the mod team that is strongly against Ads"
so when the forums says ads are ok, the flood gates be open

1. Can the forum reliably sustain itself on ads?
1.1 If so, how much ads are we talking about?
2. If not, what proportion of the forums' operating budget is expected to come from ads?

I personally don't care about ads either way, but everything's about costs and benefits. What proportion of the user-base supports it, and what/who would you lose (if any) if the forum ends up deploying ads?

Bring them ads.

As a comparison, I'm never bothered with the ads in batoto~
It's one of those 'can't be helped' things~

Putting one Ad in the top and one in bottom will do fine in my opinion. just dont make it too big or too noticeable plz.

if it's for the good of the site, I really don't mind advertisements, full stop!

11-22-2014, 06:05 PM
as long as they are not video ads .

If need be I am ready to pause my AdBlock for the good of this sites development. Bring on the Ads I say!

Ads would be okay for this site ! ;)

i feel like the people that are gonna use this site are coming here pretty specifically. people arent here to just pass through or really use it fleetingly.

if the site needs $$ then, at least for me, dont mind putting up with ads.

It'd probs motivate admins to make site better if its got more $ and would probs overall improve site.

even though no one likes ads.......

ads are okay]as long as they dont pop up suddenly and cover your screen

11-30-2014, 01:45 AM
Ads aren't bad unless they're those types that fill half the screen and force you to minimize it. The ones that automatically play audio are even worse...

11-30-2014, 02:32 AM
Well, having ads seems to be the wisest decision right now. And a lot agrees on that. Go for them!

If we decided to add an adds
i think putting it on bottom would look way better than on the top
but if the advertising company states that they want it on top than we have no choice

Saya this ad makes a loud ding noise when you mouse over it. it also does not tell me where it would redirect to if I clicked it

laser I don't think Google AdSense would allow for things like that... at least I hope not.

EDIT: It does do things like that, it's provided by Adchoices.
