View Full Version : Mogwald does Photoshop... at times.

04-05-2015, 10:00 PM
So this forum was fun enough for me, so I thought, "why not?". I've been doing GFX for about two years, more or less. I do work in my own time, but when I get going, I make things at one composition a day. I don't have a lot of stuff related to Kantai Collection, but I'm hoping the number of work I have that relates to it will increase.

Made with renders

Colors adjusted with... Photoshop adjustments (little to no GFX resources used)

Gif-ed avatars

I can do requests for signatures and avatars, but please note:

You can only request one character max in your signature. Working with one character is difficult enough sometimes. This doesn't apply to avatars (unless the avatar requires a render, then it does).
If at all possible, give me a link to the image you want me to use. I don't mind if you leave the image up to me, but I'd rather have links given to me than people be unhappy with the images I choose.
I work at 500px x 200px maximum.
I work in my own time. School can be a big hassle for me.
Credit's not needed.

its good to have a new Sig/Avator shop open :3
gratz on opening

I would come and visit later when the new DMM game that i have been waiting for is out

and those are some high quality signatures that you have made
i would say

Really? Thank you so much! I thought my skills got a little worse, but I'm glad to see somebody still likes my work.

Your works look great! I love your style

04-08-2015, 11:44 AM
pretty cool stuff in here. I like your style, it fresh af.

I'm looking forward to see more of your works soon.

04-10-2015, 02:02 AM
Style...? o_o I'm surprised. I've been really all over the place with what I do with my signatures, so I never thought I had a "style".

Anyway, I've been making a banner for a forum since yesterday. It called for something that was kinda slender and small for a regular sized banner, so I came up with this. Personally I think the thing is fine by itself, but I think this would be considered a draft 'cause I haven't messed with the coloring yet, nor does it have the text it needs. Anti-rip necessary because it's not the final product.

It's not all over the place to my eyes. Your sigs have a certain appeal to them. An abstract-ish feel similar to that of someone I know.

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/003/7/3/polaroid_by_react_kv-d8cfnnm.png (http://react-kv.deviantart.com/)

Some of your sigs need more work however, but I think you're improving the more you make this stuff. KIU!

04-10-2015, 05:03 AM
Oh no, I'm sorry, I meant in how I approach signatures. Like, sometimes I'll do vector for a little while, then I'll do C4D, then I'll do texture and sometimes I'll mix up styles 'cause I fear making a signature the same way I made the past couple signatures.

04-14-2015, 12:05 AM
Feelin' kinda poi-ish today, so Yuudachi icons~ I kinda need the practice. Last one's kinda bleh, I'm sorry.

04-16-2015, 04:12 AM
Yasen baka tag before I'm off to bed. I'm trying to finish one signature a day. I haven't done 400x200 sigs in a while. Hopefully I'll be able to find good kanmusu renders.

04-16-2015, 04:21 AM
A bit of C4D I think, from what I can see. Don't rely on it too much.

04-16-2015, 04:41 AM
Saya what is C4D?
is it a bad thing to use ?

04-16-2015, 05:09 AM
Oh gosh your works are gorgeous. A lot nicer than mine haha.

I'm tempted to request
F Kitsune C4Ds are these:
AKA things I'm guilty of abusing in my sigs.

04-16-2015, 05:34 AM
mintea same here i think his work is gorgeous as well
very tempted to request soon xD

04-16-2015, 06:05 AM
Ok. I think I'll request. Can I get a sig of DIO, possibly? I can find a render if you prefer, but even I'm getting aggravated looking through my files. I prefer this (http://i.imgur.com/KGLDqYh.png) outfit but I won't be picky. Official art, fanart, I don't mind either.

Thank you in advance. You're free to decline if you dislike the request.

04-17-2015, 12:18 AM
Wait, I really come off as a guy? Is it because this is a Kancolle forum?

@Saya (http://www.himeuta.net/members/1-saya/)
It's not C4D, actually. It's a blend (ish) of texture and vector. I haven't done a proper C4D sig in a long time, but I make 'em more show-off-y than usual like this:

@mintea (http://www.himeuta.net/members/10165-mintea/)
Wow omg thank you so much! And I'll be sure to do my best with your request!

04-22-2015, 02:20 PM
mogwald Hi there! I really like the signatures you have made, I was wondering if you could help make one for me if you have the time, if you don't its all fine :haruna_happy:

It has to be Haruna, preferably with an expression such as this (http://www.zerochan.net/1756008#full). I'll leave the actual pose or outfit up to you~ If you need more sample pictures I will be able to provide more for you!

12-21-2015, 06:53 AM
I should really stop being lazy about this and do my work.

Been reading up on some GFX stuff that I had in my very dusty dA folder and I'm using Kashima for that purpose. Have a wip.

I've always wanted to do something like this for a long time, but whenever I would do it, it would never work until now. The background kinda looks like one texture, but it's actually two of one texture laid over each other and an Apply Image layer set to Darken Color. I'm kinda focusing on flow here.

Here I was trying to imitate a signature I made around May of 2015? It was a signature I made for another forum (http://i.imgur.com/RxHkC7L.png). Again, more studying flow, but I'm also figuring out how I should use this space.

Same thing as above, but I'm using a different color here because i wanted it to fit the render more. Kinda like it, kinda don't. Bottom right is less eye catching and meshes better with the the the overall flow, but it's messy when it comes to meshing with the background color. I might place the light purple vector over it. I mean, not completely cover it, but like in the way that the vector part of Kashima is peeking out a bit.

01-06-2016, 03:45 PM
Hello, are you still accepting requests for avatars and signatures? If possible, I would like to request a set of them. The avatar and signature renders don't have to be different from each other. Something like a set would be nice. As for the character, it would be Zuikaku. Here's a few images that you can use perhaps.

Zuikaku (Kantai Collection)/#1812481 - Zerochan (http://www.zerochan.net/1812481)

Zuikaku (Kantai Collection)/#1835960 - Zerochan (http://www.zerochan.net/1835960)
Should that they are not suitable for sigmaking, I'll leave the image selections up to you. Style wise, I really like what you did with DJayDisco's request, or something like the SuperSceptile sig on the first post (fine use of geometry and scanlines attract me :x) Otherwise, just use whatever that fits the render/stock image~

Thank you in advance~

01-11-2016, 01:41 AM
E.S. Didn't notice that you posted here 'till yesterday, but here you go. Also, I didn't know if you wanted text, so the set doesn't have a name on it.

Textless is okay :3

Thank you for the sets good sir~

02-22-2016, 05:58 AM
Been meaning to post something for a while, but I seem to get distracted pretty easily. Also wanted to work on a non KC related tag, it seems like I've been doing nothing but that in the past year. Ahahaha...

So have a text free Asashimo tag. Well obviously not completely text free, but people can do some curious things... (also I need to stop being so indecisive about what to call myself when I put the edit watermark.)

Also this one's not new, but I've not really shown this off except in a forum that I frequent a lot and there I used it in my signature. It's high time I store this somewhere besides deviantart.

03-26-2016, 06:12 PM
Been playing a lot of Pokemon lately and browsing quite a few Pokemon forums, so that means more Pokemon tags.

The Charm of Sylveon tag was a remake of a request someone placed a long time ago. I followed most of the original criteria, bar a few differences because really, it doesn't look very good with what I have. Have an improvement meme.

04-24-2016, 02:37 AM
Monthly GFX post, it seems. Here is my stash of GFX I've done over the past month.

Kek I kind of hate this one. Compared to the others I've done in the past month, it's just so... unrefined. It was a remake of the first original tag I made in Photoshop and the only thing I really like about it is that my 2013 self didn't suffer from floating head syndrome (the focal is basically in the same position as the one I made in 2013).

Shameless advertising....? Idk, I forgot to remove the text when I uploaded it. The remixer is a close friend of mine and I kinda wanted to give him a proper album cover.

05-02-2016, 03:15 AM
More WIP updates, this time it's fall Harusame.

Not regular CG Harusame because I've had this image rendered for a long time, but I didn't know what to do with it until now. You can thank the lack of good body shot Iowa pics for that. Lot of experimentation from the get go, all three elements of the current background have their colors modified to fit the render. Really excited to see where I go with this, the moment I put down the texture for the left side of Harusame, I went "YES I AM TOTALLY WORKING ON THIS SIG THIS HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL."

07-19-2016, 03:54 AM
More GFX dump (feat. one bad drawing)

This one came out really nice. Almost the entire thing was made in monochrome using the black and white adjustment and I'd probably use it as a source of inspiration later.

http://i.imgur.com/BGcVVS5.png http://i.imgur.com/XAabHd2.png

Got a graphics tablet about a week ago and I haven't stopped drawing since. All of them (except one Quagsire soup) have been nothing but sketches, though. Like this one. Side note: I haven't studied anatomy since March.

08-01-2016, 06:26 AM
Title is now a misleading title. The fact that my thread title still has the old title with my old username where the OP has "Reun's Sleepy Gallery and Shop" (or something of that nature) is a bit of a headscratcher, but I'll leave it be.

wip (yes I color very inefficiently, this is what I get for being a GFX artist)

@ The weird stuff at the bottom: for some reason, when I rotate my canvas in Krita, it leaves a crooked angle, even though Krita says it's supposed to be perfectly straight.

Anyways, this is supposed to be a gift for someone and I flubbed up the admiral uniform. orz I didn't want to draw an additional skirt and white pants are too boring, so I extended the white IJN uniform to make it look like a coat, unaware that I could draw a belt until after I started shading the uniform. I suppose this is what you call liberty. Right...?

Also no curves Shimakaze and her awkward looking panties.

08-10-2016, 07:14 PM
Swimsuit Tamamo because I've had too much crossdressing pictures to draw for a week (and by that I mean one crossdressing picture). Lineart is hard. _(:3 」∠)_ So is coloring, but I'll figure that out later.

08-10-2016, 07:20 PM
your work is still amazing as ever. :iku_happy:
wish i could get to that level.

08-10-2016, 07:28 PM
Tons of practice and stubborness. This is the culmination of three years, after all. Well, that and a lot of forum lurking.

08-10-2016, 07:35 PM
i'll have to try that sometime.

08-14-2016, 04:07 AM
Tamamo bikini done.

Now that that's done... Warspite needs more art.

08-25-2016, 10:29 PM
Woops, forgot to update this one.

So I used to be a really big fan of Doctor Who, particularly of the second half of season/series 7. It's sort of evident by my old username (mogwald). I had this weird idea of using screencaps from Doctor Who as references to draw more pictures of Warspite and it sort of worked? Amateur artist. Anyway, the episode I used for this pic is "The Bells of Saint John".

Cheers for more weird anatomy and shading.

08-29-2016, 01:57 AM

I took a stab at today's 1 hour drawing for Uzuki, since I seem to draw her quite a bit before I got my tablet. Don't mind the porcelain white skin.

09-10-2016, 01:19 PM
Somewhat new stuff.

I kept getting Umikazes from E4, so to fend off my DD luck, I drew Umikaze. She likely wants me to love her, I did insult her a couple times between summer 15 and fall 15 (something about how the braid is absurdly long and she must have split ends as long as her torso and stockings are really not my thing; seriously wearing stockings is something I really hate, and combined with clammy feet it's just one huge nightmare)

+ one admiral OC. Sort of.

Wanted to make the outfit look distinct and casual without making it look like she's a total bum, but I didn't know how to make that happen until I got my lab coat, hence why the uniform like a lab coat. Also I don't know how to draw legs. _(:3 」∠)_

09-15-2016, 01:40 AM
Finished version of the OC

I wasn't that happy with the lineart and man did I make the right decision. This definitely doesn't look like a progression between three days, though (I finished this yesterday).

09-18-2016, 04:53 AM
Rusty with tags, this is my first one in two months. Admittedly, I feel like this has less flair than most of my previous work, but it's brought back a satisfaction I haven't felt in a long time. This tag is totally free, by the way. You just need credit in the sig.

09-25-2016, 03:21 PM

Not a free tag, this one I made for myself. Was stuck on this one for a bit 'cause of the background, but it turned out great! It was intended to be combined with some CSS, but I don't know how to CSS very well. _(:3 」∠)_

Another drawing wip. The description on the admiral OC I made says that there's a secret bloodlust to her. This is the calm version of that admiral OC with bloodlust. Can't tell whether I like this colored version better or just the lineart+sketch.

09-27-2016, 01:05 AM

I think you missed your OC's eyebrows  It's really easy to forget, and I've done it so many times too.

Also if I can make a suggestion, I'd recommend keeping the colour of the lineart darker than the rest of the colouring. Black and dark gray is always safe because of how solid it feels. When the lineart ends up lighter than the colours within it (in this case your OC's hair), it ends up feeling like there's a lot less structure behind it. At least that's how it feels to me.That being said, I do find lighter lineart working when the background is very dark.

09-27-2016, 03:35 AM
@Lempika (http://himeuta.org/member.php?u=5365)

Yeah, I realized that my OC was missing eyebrows. They're there now. (http://puu.sh/rnXbT/68c470aab1.png) Albeit not the best, but they're there.

Also suggestion duly noted! Will definitely keep that in mind as I finish the pic and onward.

10-26-2016, 02:49 AM
Oh boy, yet another "art dump". I've been really busy this past month, so I haven't been doing as many art things as I normally would have, but I do have something!

(request from another forum)

(another request from another forum) Tbh, I didn't really like this one a lot, a lot of the work that I did was on the background, which seemed to have made itself within the first 30 minutes of opening the canvas.

A curious experiment that I did when I was fiddling around with Photoshop. A long time ago I was able to mimic the style of the original marriage card without ever seeing the original xcf file (I used GIMP way before I knew the doo-hickeys of Photoshop) and I was quite impressed that I was able to mimic the latest style just as easily. Needless to say this was a very successful experiment that I will be using in the future.

I know the quality is crap, but I made this after watching someone play Danganronpa blind. Someone said something about finding the headmaster's skeleton and finding Kyoko in a witch costume. It was supposed to be an Inktober thing, but I wasn't confident in doing the inking neatly. I mean, I've done drawings with just a pen, but it's been quite a while since I've done that.

Also that one drawing that was a wip. This was fun. Too bad that nothing I've been drawing now comes close to this.

11-12-2016, 06:13 PM
More GFX work from requests.

11-12-2016, 06:41 PM
you never fail to impress!
I especially love the style on the hamakaze one. :iku_happy:
where do you happen to find your textures/brush sets by the way?

I'll have to request something when you've got time.

11-13-2016, 05:15 PM

Thank you! I had a lotta fun with the Hamakaze one, actually. It was quite the happy accident.
I get all of my textures and brushes from deviantART. I don't go actively looking for resources as much as I did two years ago, but I do spend time looking for stuff when nothing seems to work with a signature.

12-05-2016, 12:28 AM
I'm totally out of practice but have a Yamakaze sketch that I don't wanna do lineart and color for because lol sketching in Photoshop and doing the rest in SAI.

12-10-2016, 07:06 PM
do you think I'd be able to request a signature of the character snow white from magical girl raising project, or la pucelle from the same series?

if you end up doing one, please feel free to pick between whichever one feels right with the design because I can't decide ^^'
no rush either! :iku_base:

12-21-2016, 04:07 AM
Fog Here you go!

12-21-2016, 04:12 AM

Hello...do you think you could, uh, make me a Hatsuzuki signature? No rush tho, I'm aware of the date it is.

Thanks a bunch! :shoukaku_happy:

12-27-2016, 12:52 AM
awesome work!
thanks a bunch :iku_base:

05-01-2017, 01:03 AM
I haven't posted anything in ages, so have an art dump that's not GFX.

06-24-2017, 04:06 AM
Not-really-regularly-scheduled art dump, but still here anyway.

Plus one wip that will probably take more than three days due to how difficult this is for me.
