    Sunray In the Darkness Event

The second Halloween Co-Operation in World of Warships is currently live in the public test server, and since I didn't see any guide around, I've decided to write one.

This operation is the follow-up of the Saving Transylvania from Rasputin's fleet after they've crossed through the Portal to the safety of the Silver Spear Archipelago. Except, of course, Rasputin and Gorgon's fleet also crossed through the portal and brought the "filth" along. Either way, it's up to the Intania Fleet to hold them off until the Tower managed to seal them off.

This time, you'll be playing as one of the following ships:

    • Urashima, a destroyer helmed by Commander Mina Hurray. (Kagerou with three consumables, smoke is replaced with self ECM, engine boost makes the filth heals you)
    • Svyatozar, a cruiser helmed by Commander Ivan K. Ulibin.
    • Magnu-S, a battleship helmed by Commander Klaus V. Teslau. (a Tirpitz with shorter main gun range but has party-wide heal and self-invinciblity consumable)
    • Nobilium, an aircraft carrier helmed by Commander Lazarus Centurio. (basically an all-torpedo bomber Lexington/Enterprise with short fleet-wide ECM consumable) g

Urashima's primary role is to provide torpedo support, as well as scouting the enemies around the filth and hopefully take out the Gorgon before her aircraft seriously hurting the fleet. That said, destroyer captains planning to assassinate Gorgon needs to beware of the torpedo bombers. Fail to evade and you'll be sunk in two hits.

Svyatozar's role is, of course, to shoot enemy ships like a cruiser. as well as acting as the fleet spotter. This doesn't sound like much, but Nobilium's special consumable incapacitates all spotted enemies throughout the map. She is also a good choice for assassinating Gorgon (or at least setting her flight deck ablaze), assuming you're good cruiser captain, of course.

Magnu-S is the shield of the fleet. Her main guns are quite short in range (because shooting in the safety of distance is not an option), but she's fast for a battleship and has good secondaries (and you'd better make good use of them). She also has torpedoes, but they quite likely to be destroyed half the battle in. Your main role is to engage the enemy fleet and make them attack you instead of the Tower or the rest of the fleet. Try to stay with other battleships and cruisers so you can heal each other. Failing that, avoid stepping into the filth if there are enemy ships near them. Oh, you also has invincible consumable (and plenty of it too). Use it for tanking torpedo hits, battleship shells, and ramming (yes, you are invincible while ramming).

Nobilium's role is to provide aircraft support to the fleet. In addition to the typical aircraft carrier role (with emphasis on torpedo bombers), you also has a special consumable which incapacitates all spotted enemies. They're very useful to disable the enemy fleet while your planes are doing bombing runs, and given proper planning you can seriously ambush the Rasputin's fleet back when they appears at the west of the western Tower. You also have a fleet-wide repair party, which really helps to keep your fleet alive when they're in a pinch, making the Superintendent very useful.

If you're in public test, fret not, just explore the upgrades and commander skills. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

@LostLogia4 Looks like competent CV players will be a high premium. In the regular PVE Operations, a good CV player was essential to more easy winning.

@M.A.Mitscher Unfortunately, I'm literally a newbie when it comes to CV, so I couldn't really write much playing as one.

This new Ops lacks incentive to play imo. The rewards are Halloween containers, and if you wish to kit the new T8 ships, you need to pay 6 mil per ship...

And yes, a competent CV driver is a trump card to have.

While I agree on the level of the reards, it's really fun enough to play for the sake of playing it. The new mechanics make it very different from a regular game, pretty good breath of fresh air.

I played the event scenario a bunch yesterday. A good CV helps but IMO, the other ships are extremely good for the job.

A recurring problem I found to be the boss CV that spawns after several waves. That thing takes its toll against the guys over a while and the friendly CV with 1 fighter cannot stop the sheer amount of bombers coming.

With a bit of savvy flanking the Cruiser and DD can get into the Filth and pick off the CV before it does too much damage against the team. The BB is too unstealthy, too big, too clumsy. The BB isn't good for that because you literally have Cruisers and DDs spawn a few km from you, and combine that with TBs, it's very, very bad. The Cruiser has DPM and can get all its HP back when firing it's DPM consumable. When it gets in contact with the CV, it's DPM race mode. The problem for the Cruiser is it's sort of clumsy still and if you do not take care of those TBs, you need to be very mindful of dodging torps. The DD? THRIVES IN THE FILTH. Stealth is great with full stealth build. A key thing is her Engine Boost heals you while IN the Filth. My DDs have gotten down to 2k HP in the Filth but pop Engine Boost, I'm looking great afterwards. The enemy boss CV takes a tremendous amount of punishment but with skill, consumables management, dodging escorts, the DD is your best answer in removing the boss CV.

Some time after the enemy group that spawns at F2, that is when I do a circular movement with the DD and sneak into the Filth and await the CV's arrival.

I tried a few games and it's fun. I do have another gripe though: give me my range back!!

There are guys using the BB, mount the Ramming Signal Flag, and going to town with hundreds of thousands of Ramming Damage. They'll use the invulnerability consumable just before ramming. The signal flag provides extra damage.

@M.A.Mitscher That along with just using invul liberally is exactly what I'm doing, and doing well with magnu-S. You can get 8 charges in total, and you can survive pretty long by racking up the damage early in the game by sticking close to the Filth and spamming torps. The battleship in this mode is just as much an anchor as in a real game, and I'm usually the one who takes out both the Gorgon and Rasputin by ramming. The bombers are no issue after speccing for manual AA.

I actually find the destroyer the least important. Even the cruisers can kill att least the Gorgon on their own by abusing the reload module, though its probably the end for them afterward.

4 stars so far, but alas Gorgon has yet to fall in any of the games I've played so far. People are terrified of getting in the filfth after the initial waves, and when I attempt to do it myself I just end up alone having to take down both Rasputin and Gorgon by myself while I get focused by all the other mob ships. Meh.
