[Fall 2017 E-2] Showdown at Operation Sho-Go! Battle of Leyte Gulf (Part 1)

This post will be updated with confirmed information pertaining to map E-2 as it is spaded. The thread can also serve as a starting point for people to discuss the map if they want.

Disclaimer: Information in this thread is subjected to change when new or additional data is made available.

Commence Preparations For Operation Shou-Gou 1
    捷一号作戦、発動準備

General Event Outline, Participation Requirements and Difficulty System

To participate in this event, you must have a sortie win rate of 75% or above. You also need at least 5 spare Kanmusu slots and 20 equipment slots. Completely depleting the health bar and therefore clearing the map will lock it in the chosen difficulty, it cannot be changed afterwards.

    Event Map Summary
    Operation Locking Combined Rewards LBAS
E-1 Yes to E-1 + E-2 No Type 0 Reconnaissance Seaplane Model 11B (Skilled) Yes
E-2 Yes to E-2 No Etorofu Class Coastal Defense Ship Sado Yes
E-3 Yes to E-3 Yes Equipment Yes
    EO-1 Akizuki Class Destroyer Suzutsuki

*There will be no fleet locking on easy difficulty

Please be aware that it is not possible to increase the difficulty between maps by more than one. As an example if you have cleared E-1 on "Easy" you will not be able to select "Hard" for E-2; only "Medium" will be available. However players will be able to choose "Hard" again for E-3 if you pick "Medium" on E-2 for this specific scenario. This does not affect the ability to decrease difficulty; players will still be able to choose "Easy" after clearing the previous map on "Hard".

Hidden route of E2 hard can be unlocked by S ranking sub hime node in J, then get AS or above in node C and D. Node D can be reached by having a CVL in your fleet.

So I beat the sub princess in e-2. But I can’t seem to the other boss. Is there navigation rules to branch to it?

    E2 hard walkthrough:

New mechanism: 7 ship fleet "Striking force":
Starting from this map, you can use this fleet in place of normal fleet. This fleet consists of 7 ships, and must be placed in the 3rd fleet. Needless to say, an extra ship will give you a big advantage over normal fleet.

Part 1 - Unlock hidden route
There are 3 requirements for unlocking the hidden route:

    1. S rank node J:
Pretty straight forward. Just bring 3-4 OASW ship and 2-3 night DA ship and it should be a free S rank. Make use of the new ASW support expedition if you have any trouble.

    2. Get AS or above at node C
For this you would want to use your lbas fighter team to sweep the base twice. I get AS here with 7 spf + 2 fighter sweep, but I am not sure if this is the lower limit yet. Another option is akitsumaru, but we do not know if she is needed in other maps yet.

    3. Get AS or above at node D
To reach node D, you need 1 CVL in your fleet, who should be loaded with full fighter to help get AS. LBAS fighter sweep in that node is also recommended.

Warning: Pls do not lock any of the Ozawa fleet member here (in terms of CVL: Chitose, Chiyoda and Zuihou). They are needed for historical routing in E3.

    Part 2 - TP mode

After fulfilling all the above requirements, you should see an new starting point. It is confirmed that Shima fleet historical routing exists in this map, and in terms of hard mode, 4 Shima fleet member will provide better routing. Noted that in my own experience, Hatsushimo is not included in this routing, even though irl she was under Shima fleet (probably because she was never in the fight itself).

The following is fleet I used to clear. The route this fleet took is QKLMNP.

Ashigara: 20.3(3)/20.3(3)/obs+6/obs+7 (I probably overdone with the LOS requirement a bit. I fail LOS check with f33=20, but passed it with f33=29))
    Bismarck: 38cm kai max/mk7+gfcs +7/T1 ap shell+6/Shiun
Chitose: Murata/Iwamoto max/T52 max/T52 max (Yes, I shouldn't use Chitose here. Better pick a fast CVL unrelated to this battle.)
    Teruzuki: 10cm hafd +9/10cm hafd +9/T13 radar +9
    ABKM: daihaitsu/daihaitsu/midget sub
    Kinu: Daihaitsu x3
    Kasumi: quint x3

Edit: Kinu might be required for E3 routing.

LBAS: 4 bomber to boss node

Formation: Line ahead for all surface node. Diamond for air raids.

Support: Shelling support for both node and boss support. Noted that a team with 2 CV will now trigger aerial support. 3BB1CV2DD is still shell support, and is what I go with in this event.

Overall, a pretty straightforward map. Route unlocking is not RNG at all, and you should be able to do it in 2-3 sorties. The TP map is boring as usual, but all you need is just A rank.

@211303 I'm having difficulty finding out info about the new ASW support expedition. Could you tell me how to set it up please? I'm having trouble S-ranking node J.

@boyofmystery we do not know much on how damage is calculated, but it seems that the triggering comp is the same as aerial support, except that you would want to use ASW capable ships for this. What I did is to use a 4CVL+2DD fleet. The CVL are equipped with TB with high ASW stat (and preferably high Torp for the occasional surface target), while the DD are equipped with Sonar/ DC sets.

E2 Node P Easy Tsushima (and other) Farming

What's cool that drops here? Not a complete list but I'll point out some things of interest.
(all statistics from poi-stats - results in the double digits for all entries so mostly reliable)

    Tsushima
    7+% on S rank, 3% on A rank
Hayasui 5+% on S ranks for people who want extra drums
Yamagumo 2+%, Asagumo 1+%, on S ranks for people concerned about Nishimura fleet.
Akashi 1% on S rank for people who want extra cranes and a miniscule % on A ranks.

Why would you want to farm on Easy instead of just clearing on Hard and hoping for the drop?
Well, if you don't fancy your luck. I particularly dislike the 2 Ta-class Flagship on the single surface battle node. In addition, the airstrikes are weaker, CA Hime is much easier to kill in Easy compared to Hard... it is just plain easier.

Why you wouldn't want to farm on Easy, at least for Tsushima, is because the drop rate on Hard is actually decently high, 8% for S ranks and 5% for A ranks. You could theoretically go with your best equips and run over and over until you get the drop then pile on the drums and daihatsu to clear the map. But I generally dislike gatekeeper nodes like the 2 Tas that can cut you off easily and send you back on a regular basis.

Easy is far easier to reach the boss, S rank, and it requires a map reset only every 10 or so runs for a single, mostly harmless and easily reached and S-ranked boss. So I'd seriously consider Easy farming for anyone who wants to prioritise getting Tsushima.

    What you need
You can use the 7-ship fleet in the 3rd slot for an easier time, but it's certainly possible to run with 6 ships only in Easy to free up an expedition fleet.

On Easy mode, to unlock the second start point, you only have to S rank Sub Hime Node J once. That's it. A combination of CA(V)s, DDs, and a CL, with ASW equipped and some seaplane fighters on a CAV, will be enough.

For the second part, you can use the same fleet, but set up for surface battle. A character equipped with AACI is helpful due to the two airstrike nodes.

In order to get the shortest possible route 2QLMNP, you need to avoid bringing BBs or CVLs. Do note that you can bring CLTs (if you have dupes/are willing to lock to E1/2), and they are quite helpful due to being able to 1-shot the annoying Ta-class regularly.

Regarding historical ships for routing, it has only been one day's worth of data so I don't want to confirm anything prematurely. I can say that a fast 7-character fleet of Nachi, Abukuma, Ushio, (who are in Shima's Surigao fleet), and Hatsuharu, Teruzuki, Mikuma, Kumano gets me on the shortest route 2QLMNP. It seems that as few as 2 of Shima's Surigao fleet are need on Easy? (Mikuma, Kumano, Teruzuki, Ooi, Kasumi, Abukuma on subsequent tries, still shortest route)

In essence, for the shortest routing 2QLMNP, you need 2DD + 4 or 5 others as long as there are
    1. no BB, CVL, AV, SS
    2. At least 2 members of Shima's fleet
(Nachi, Ashigara, Abukuma, Akebono, Ushio, Kasumi, Shiranui)

AVOID LOCKING: Members of Ozawa's fleet (E3 favourable routing), Members of Nishimura Fleet (E4 boss routing/damage) but you knew this already

    Fighter Power?
It is helpful to get Air Superiority on both airstrike nodes to help reduce the chance of taking damage. To get this you can bring 1-3 CAVs or Yura Kai Ni (if you're willing to lock her in E1/2).

The characters with air power I brought were
Mikuma Kai: (Gun), Zuiun 12, (Gun), Type 2 Seaplane Figher Kai(Skilled) or Kyoufuu Kai
Kumano Kai Ni: (Gun), (Gun), Zuiun 634(Skilled), Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai(Skilled) or Kyoufuu Kai

for 115 Fighter Power. This gives me AS on the boss, and on the airstrike nodes but AP in the formation in the airstrike with Takoyaki-carrying Nu-class.

It is probably better to bring slightly higher air power than the 115 I used, but it's not strictly necessary as the air battle nodes are only a minor threat. Preserving daytime double attacks on as many of your ships as possible may be preferable to muling a CAV, as long as you get AS at the boss' node.

    LBAS?
If buckets are a concern, it may also be a good idea to use LBAS with 4 bombers, with one wave each to Ta-class Node L and boss Node P, to reduce the amount of repairs you may have to do post-battle, as well as reduce the chance of the Ta-class node sending you back. Don't bother with sending both to the same node - it is way overkill, even on the boss node.

Sending one strike to each surface node and no supports, I lose about 200+ fuel and ammo (including resupply, repair, LBAS sortie cost and replenishment) and an average of <2 buckets a run... which I imagine is quite a bit less than a Hard mode boss run.

Morale will be your main problem on this map once you have got a good pattern going. You can rotate your flagship each run to help alleviate this - as long as you do not retreat early, they are autosparkled due to being MVP on the two airstrike nodes. However you still probably want a good double-attacker as your flagship to increase the chance of artillery spotting, hopefully knocking out a Ta-class on both the surface nodes.

Hope these ideas helped and good luck in E2 farming!

    My exact fleet
    [+] Spoiler

Fast Striking Force Fleet (7 characters) - 2QLMNP
    Lvl 99 Nachi Kai Ni - 203mm/53 +9, SKC34, Night Scout, Searchlight
    Lvl 99 Mikuma Kai - 20.3cm(3) +9, Zuiun 12, SKC34, Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai (Skilled)
    Lvl 99 Teruzuki Kai - 10cm HA+FD MAX, 10cm HA+FD, Type 13 Air Radar Kai MAX
    Lvl 88 Hatsuharu Kai Ni - 10cm HA+FD x2, Type 22 Surface Radar Kai 4 Late Model
    Lvl 97 Kasumi Kai Ni - 10cm HA+FD x2, Type 22 Surface Radar Kai 4 +1
Lvl 92 Abukuma Kai Ni - Midget Sub, Sextuple +7, Quint +9
Lvl 98 Kumano Kai Ni - 20.3cm(2) +9, SKC34, Zuiun 634 (Skilled), Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai (Skilled)

25 TP per S rank at the boss. With 330 TP at the boss node, this means I can do 12-13 runs before I need to reset the map.

    LBAS - 4 Land-based Bombers, 1 wave to Node L and Node P respectively.

    Fast 6-character fleet with CLT - 2QLMNP
    Lvl 99 Mikuma Kai - 20.3cm(3) +9, Zuiun 12, SKC34, Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai (Skilled)
Lvl 98 Kumano Kai Ni - 20.3cm(2) +9, SKC34, Zuiun 634 (Skilled), Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai (Skilled)
    Lvl 99 Teruzuki Kai - 10cm HA+FD MAX, 10cm HA+FD, Type 13 Air Radar Kai MAX
Lvl 32 Ooi Kai - Midget Sub, Sextuple +7
    Lvl 97 Kasumi Kai Ni - 10cm HA+FD x2, Type 22 Surface Radar Kai 4 +1
Lvl 92 Abukuma Kai Ni - Midget Sub, Quint +9, Quint

20 TP per S rank at the boss

FYI, the Ta-class Node L also had some interesting drops, such as a very small chance of Maruyu, as well as Kamikaze and Harukaze. If for whatever reason you don't get a S rank there, it may be worth going into yasen for the small chance of a drop as doing so will not jeopardise your remaining ammo for the boss, since you don't fight any other surface battle nodes.

@211303 @NanashiYoukai Very nice you two! As always thanks for frontlining and taking the time to write down guides. I really appreciate the effort! :D

Hmm since easy mode farming seems.... well easy enough, i'll try some runs for Tsushima and see how it goes.
