    Rabaul server is suffering from a large scale connection problem



    As the title says, Rabaul server is currently down due to a large scale connection problem. Maint is scheduled to end at JST0830.

    However, the database has suffered serious damage. Worst case scenario is that the server will have to be rollback using the most intact backup data, which is the one before the last maintenance. The dev will update on the situation once they decide what to do.

    Another update. They are going to try using the back up data on 20/7 JST0400 to rollback the server now.

    The payment log is still intact. All items you bought from 20/7 0400 will be recovered accordingly.

    1800 of each of the 4 resources will be given to all ttk in Rabaul server (but not exceeding natural regen cap). An additional 3,000 of each of the resources will be given to all ttk in Rabaul server who has played between the JST0400, 20/7 to the start of the maint (this part can exceed the natural cap).

    The next maint and the server transfer of yokosuka, kure, maizuru and sasebo might be rescheduled to 1 August.

    As unfortunate as it is, the way they've described the situation also makes it interesting to me how they handle our data and it's backups.


    The payment shop log is kept separate (maybe), and they do indeed keep daily backups, a common database practice in most places but sometimes scrimped in smaller game companies. I would also guess they also keep a new build master backup, after maint.


    However, its possible they keep the daily backups on the same drive as the main data though I'm still guessing a little. If whatever happened to the server had a probability of damaging the daily backups to the extent that they would have to revert to the one since maintenance. But it's possible it's not and the failure was a drawn out one that could have afffected past backups.


    On another note I'm concerned about the push back date. They probably want to take the time to check the server over and probably the others as well. Which is good. But it does mean one less week of testing the new html5 envionrment unless they're pushing back the event too....

    @DLRevan

    Payment goes through DMM, so even if they lose anything they can request the data from DMM. Though they may very well have a separate log for that since that involves real money most of the time.

    @ofi123 DMM might not record the actual items being purchased. In DMM's user account controls, you can only see that you made an item purchase from KC to the amount of some points. They may have more extensive records, but even then if I were C2 I'd definitely keep my own log, primarily for this kind of recovery purpose. It would cause many problems if you were reliant on another company's records after all...
