@Zarael For Normal mode, I would recommend you to take node V instead. It is just a vanilla Re class in normal mode, which should be easier to pass than ZZ. To route to node V, keep the same fleet but reduce the no. of radar so that you doesn't meet the radar requirement of node ZZ. This way, you can concentrate the anti-Sub LBAS on the first sub node.

    Other chances you should make:

    1. If you can k2 Musashi now, do that first and give her gun/gun/radar/ap/recon. If not, pick Mutsu instead. The reason to use Musashi is because she has 5 slot in her k2 form, which means she can equip radar+ap (increase Nagato's special attack's damage), while also do artillery spotting.

    2. Shigure shouldn't use mixed CI, but TCI.

    3. Against normal mode armor, Sendai with DA setup is prefearable over a non-luckmodded ABKM. You should give Myoukou DA as well for the same reason.

@Shadowfury The above should answer your question.

@IronWarrior CLT is optional here. Their problem is that their night damage isn't as high as the historical DD here, and that they cannot equip radar. There also isn't a dangerous surface node, so the opening torp doesn't really increase passing rate.

For chipping though, CLT with OASW+opening torp could be useful.

@silentcap Triggering rate is around 65%

Funny thing is that I did try the node V route for about 10 runs and it felt like node C became the new ZZ and constantly sent me back. I swapped back to node ZZ route since then and found that I had a better passing rate.

Since I unexpectedly cleared LD, I'll try your suggestions since I still need to look for Johnston. I've been slacking on BPs, so I can't k2 Musashi atm. I was, instead, originally using Ise K2 with a 2x gun. bomber, recon, radar setup. How would that compare in damage to Mutsu(which btw I haven't quite leveled and she's at 75)? Meanwhile Ise K2 is at 92.

@Zarael With Mutsu and Nagato using the radar+ap setup, the three hits will be x2.499525, x2.499525, x2.51 respectively, while if you have Ise k2 or Musashi, the three hits will be x2.1735, x2.1735, x1.863 respectively. Given Ise's lack of fp, she is a much inferior choice, and should only be used when you lack fighter power.

Musashi k2, despite the lower modifier, will outperform Mutsu in the special damage category in head on due to her higher base fp, and she could use artillery spotting at the same time. Since you cannot k2 your musashi now though, Mutsu should be your only choice.

@Zarael Oh, and also, consider using Nagato's ability in node V for farming if passing rate becomes a problem. For farming, passing rate is more important than S rank rate. In that case though, let the BB have recon.

I see. Is there any way to increase the trigger rate? Also, does it only trigger once per sortie like Nelson's special attack?

@silentcap It will only trigger once per sortie, and we have no idea what affects the triggering rate.

Ok. Looks like I'll have to go All Attack Formation (Cruising Formation 4) so I don't waste up Nagato's special attack on a pre-boss node then. Using "Cruising Formation 2 (forward)" (it is the one in Kancolle wiki) is the one that triggers Nagato's special attack right?

Is there any way to make killing the boss (Phase 2) reliable?

Of all the runs I made so far, I only managed to get two clean kills, one run that reduced the boss to yellow health, and another run that just scratched her. From what I can see, killing the boss seems to rely on Nagato (or Nelson) having her special attack trigger which doesn't happen all the time even when all the requirements are present (i.e. Nagato is in flagship position, has surface radar, has another BB in 2nd spot, cruising formation 2, etc) and/or LBAS bombers critically damaging (or outright sinking) the accompanying BB himes.

    Oh yeah, I'm using a 2BB 1CVB 1CA 1LHA 1AV + 1CA 1CL 2DD 2CLT fleet which doesn't encounter as much problem getting to the boss.

@silentcap CLT doesn't do as much damage as historical DD.

    @211303

I'm kinda at the chipping part of the boss bar right now. My plan for them was to shoot their opening torpedo shots at the escort ships so the main fleet will have less targets to worry about (and they're more likely to concentrate on the dangerous targets like the two BB himes).

BTW, is not being able to secure AS on the boss node normal? When I tried to copy your recommended LD comp, I wasn't able to secure AS there.
