    Acquiring Subs
So you've seen how awesome subs are and you want your own now? Good! Let's get you some subs!

Subs are one of the harder type of ships to get. Drop and construction rates are fairly low. But don't fret! There are nice drop areas and you have the ability to craft 5 of the 7 subs. Like all things in this game let's just hope RNGsama is on your side

    Construction

Let's try some construction. The 5 subs you can build are Goya, Imuya, Hachi, Shioi, and Maruyu. However, Shioi and Maruyu are via Large Ship Construction(LSC) only. Iku and Yuu are not buildable.

Goya, Imuya, and Hachi can all be built in regular construction. The best recipe to get one of these subs is actually the same recipe you'd use to get one of the rare DD like Yukikaze, Shimakaze, Z1, or Z3. There are also variations to the recipe. You can determine which one you want to use but if you see a 22:00 min it's a great sign! Take all these recipes with a grain of salt. Everything is RNG.

    Drop List
No luck in construction? Whelp I can we're just going to have to fish them out!
Subs drop the most at 1-5 and 6-1 since they are both sub focused maps it's not hard to see why.
Be careful running 1-5 if you are a low level TTK, it is tempting but you'll shoot your eye out speed up your leveling as the 1-5 gives a nice sized HQ exp reward
Oddly though Hachi has the highest drop rate at Hoppou at the moment. Anyone want to go take a trip to AL? :3

Re: [In Progress] Dive Dive Dive! A guide to Subs!

    Should you remodel or not

One of the most commonly asked questions by players of Kancolle is “Should I remodel my subs?” There is a much debated topic that centers on repair times. SSVs carry a repair time that is about 3 to 4 times longer than a regular SS. Many people argue that makes them useless for such tasks as grinding 3-2A. No one wants to use a sub that’s going to take 1+ hour to repair from a critical hit when they are grinding. But wait, let’s narrow down the subs we are actually talking about because only SS that remodel into SSV are affected by this change. These subs are Goya, Iku, and Hachi.

Since Shioi is already a SSV and Imuya, Maruyu, and Yuu stay SS even after remodeled, you can upgrade them worry free. Remodeling them will only give you advantages such as better stats, a second slot, and equipment while maintaining the same repair category.

Back to the issue at hand, whether to remodel Goya, Iku, and Hachi. This comes down to 2 basic questions:
    1. Do you have any duplicates of Goya, Iku, and Hachi?
If you have duplicates, there is little reason not to remodel at least remodel one set of them (The reasons that might apply are discussed in the next question). If you don’t have duplicates, it might be best to go ahead and wait until you do as subs are hard to come by. Better to wait than to regret. However, please see the list of advantages and disadvantages to help you make your decision.

    2. What do you plan to use them for?
Subs that are not remodeled serve 2 basic uses: tanking grinding maps like 3-2A and resource farming/quest completion on Orel (2-3). If all you do is grind 3-2A nonstop, you might need every one of your subs to stay un-remodeled to meet your requirements. If not, consider remodeling but factor whether you have extra subs or plan to have extra subs. If you don’t plan to 3-2A that often, Maruyu, Yuu, and Imuya might be all you need. (Please see the tanking section for more details)
For Orel, the repair times and additional consumption cost are seen as unfavorable for people that want the most back from Orel (Granted even running a team of SSVs should net you a profit of resources). Again, if you don’t have duplicates, it can make Orel more stressful as you have to wait on subs or take subs out of the fleet in order to sortie again. However, having higher stats and an extra slot, they have an easier time clearing the map as well as taking less hits and less harmful hits. (Please see the Orel section for the full comparisons of fleets and returns)
Advantages to Remodeling Goya, Iku, and Hachi
o A remodeled Goya has one of the highest luck values in the game allowing her to easily have a cutin attack during night battle when equipped with 2 torpedoes.
o Two slots: Allows for cutin attacks or equipping a variety of combination equipment.
o The ability to launch Seaplane Scouts and Seaplane Bombers. Allowing for both aerial phase and torpedo phase for subs. Watch the 1-4 subcheesing video to get an idea of how it will work.
o Higher health, armor, and evasion. Meaning they take less hits and when they do get hit, they take scratch damage (1 or 2 points of damage) more often than hard hits.
Disadvantages to Remodeling Goya, Iku, and Hachi
o Increased repair times. We are talking 3 to 4 times that of a regular SS. To a level 90 sub, that can be a difference of 40 mins un-remodeled to 3 hours remodeled.
o Slight resource consumption increase from 20 ammunition to 25.

    Remodeling Yuu into Ro

Purely by stats, Ro-chan is a better choice. She gains 1 health, 1 armor, 8 evasion, and 10 luck over Yuu-chan. Not to mention that she also gives you one of the best torpedoes in the game.

Give two engines to Yuu or Ro and she could be the only sub you need for 3-2A all day but that extra +8 evasion from her remodel makes her nearly untouchable. RNG-sama must really hate you if he smites a two-engined Ro-chan in one hit.
However, Yuu-chan still has pretty good stats. So the choice comes down to which one you think is cuter. Just know that Yuu-chan worked really hard on her Japanese and just wants to fit in. It’d be a shame not to reward her with a remodel. Still the choice is your’s and your’s alone.

    My Opinion
IMO, it's good to remodel them. Despite what some may say, unless you are only going use them exclusively for 3-2 then remodel them. A remodeled sub is a monster compared to an un-remodeled one. Yes you do get increased repair times but they dodge better, most the time only take scratch damage, and one shot enemies like no ones business. You could also just save a couple extra just for 3-2 once you get them or just use the SS that don't transform into SSV. Again though judge your own situation, especially if you only have a few subs.
