    Oops. We got a long one today.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ====================
    Sword Fleet - Ryuujou
    ====================

    Focus. Gotta focus. Doing that is no easy task. I dismiss all the energy I had reserved for more planes as I begin to channel and gather up more. One shikigami on top of the other. Attaching more shikigami around that. More, more, and more still.

    "What are you doing, A.C.?" Hiryuu asked on the side, but I cut her off with a shushing motion as I concentrated more.

    A few more minutes had passed. It had developed more, but still wasn't near ready yet. The other girls didn't know what to do and hadn't sent out another wave yet. As it would become apparent however, that was a good thing.

    "Enemy contacts!" Teruzuki reported with urgency. "Small ones, but a lot of them. It's a carrier task force!"

    Dammit. Not now. With Shield down and Hammer deadlocked, they were trying to attack us, the deciding factor.

    "Need... more... time...!" I managed to get out during my focus.

    Souryuu thankfully took this cue properly, and gave out orders that nobody else questioned.

    "Fighters out! As many as you have left! I don't know what the boss is doing, but don't let them stop her! Teruzuki, we're counting on you big time here. Don't let anything through."

    "Leave it to Teruzuki!" She confidently answered. As she took her position as the point of our fleet, planes roared to life all around me as the other four started to cover the sky. Not a moment too soon as the enemy cloud came into our view. There was no doubt about it; this was a large carrier force meant to neutralize our own. Our fighters would not hold them all back; Teruzuki is going to be the linchpin on whether or not we survive long enough to save Hammer.

    Flak and explosions covered the sky around us. On the left, a fierce dogfight between our fighters and theirs. Bullets flew every which way as planes from both sides would get clipped and spiral down. On the right, a single fighter of ours charged in alone, unloading their entire magazine in a strafe to cut through a cloud of enemy planes hard, only to be collapsed on when it ran out of ammo. And in the center, Teruzuki was twisting and turning in ways that would push a professional dancer to their body's limit as she dodged bombs all around her, and twisted and turned to keep her eyes and high-angle guns on target and firing non-stop. Her two Choujuusenchihou animated turrets spun in dizzying circles in their perches in her rigging as they fired on each and every thing that moved. Enemy planes near her would run into a meat grinder of flak, and what few could make it through never escaped the bullet storm after making their attack run.

    She couldn't last forever though. Even near misses from explosions still hurt, and they were wearing her down. Her outfit was tearing in multiple spots, and she had some scorch marks on her thighs. This was a race against time; how long Teruzuki could survive versus how long it would take for me to finish. Only just a bit more...

    ...this was it. No more time left. Despite her best efforts, Teruzuki couldn't stop everything, as a massive explosion rocked her position. She had managed to dodge a flurry of bombs, only to end up dodging into another one that she simply could do nothing about. As the smoke cleared, her body lie almost motionless on the water's surface, struggling to crawl herself back up. Her turrets were out cold, with heavy damage to them. They'd need to be repaired before they could animate again. With our main AA defense removed, the Abyssals took that opening to try to attack me. A small group of bombers cut past our overwhelmed fighters and made a beeline for me.

    "Dammit...! I only needed a few more seconds!" I thought to myself as I braced for everything to fall apart.

    Boom-boom-boom

    Three small explosions rocked in front of me as those last remaining attack bombers popped like fiery balloons. Behind them, a barely conscious Teruzuki was looking up at me, turret barrels smoking. She gave one last weak smile before she dropped into unconsciousness.

    I owed that poor girl a damn fine dinner after this, because that last ditch effort was all I needed. It was finished. It came to life with a deafening roar as the engine sparked and started; the size and volume not unlike those giant planes humans used to get around before the Abyssals cut off all inter-country ties.

    "What is that!?" I barely heard Hiryuu shout over the massive engine roars. Ignoring her surprise, I ordered it to get moving.

    "Titanoktonon! Fly!"

    The massive propellers spun up and added to the cacophony of sounds as the giant plane began to move. It gained speed, shoving right through any enemy planes that dared to stay in the path as if they were a cloud of dust. Eventually, she got airborne. As she rose to the skies, finding the enemy carriers attacking us was laughably easy. They weren't going to go down quite as such though. Enemy fighters attacked the titan, as tiny bullets peppered her hull. They could do nothing but bounce off, but it still damaged her. And with as much focus and concentration I needed to control this thing, that damaged and hurt me as well. Our fighters eventually picked them off, and the titan was freed up.

    "Fire!" I commanded. Three earth shattering booms rang out as firepower that would make the Big 7 envious vaporized the enemy task force where it stood.

    "Now... go, Titan! To Hammer Fleet!"

    ====================
    Hammer Fleet - Kongou
    ====================

    A patch of static buzzed in my ear as the comm link to the Admiral patched in.

    "Alright, listen up. The entire remainder of Reserve Fleet is coming into help buy time. Three of them have ASW kits, but the rest only have normal light arms. They're instructed to slow down the enemy push as much as possible with torpedo waves, and to only shoot at something they think they can finish off. This won't be enough to push back, but Ryuu says she has that covered. Just hold out until she gets her force there. Kiyoshimo ran off ahead on her own, crazy girl, so she'll arrive first with one of the ASW kits. Direct her as needed to protect any wounded targets. The rest are at your command as well when they arrive."

    "No problem!" I responded to the comm as it cut off. As if timing her arrival on purpose, Kiyoshimo materialized on the horizon just in time as she rushed full ahead into our ranks. And not a moment too soon, as a sub pack was preying on my wounded sisters. Kiyoshimo flew in like lightning, zipped right past me, and tossed a handful of charges into the water around them. A second later, an underwater explosion went out as three enemy submarines flopped to the surface like dead fish. Kiyoshimo turned to the ailing Haruna with sparkles in her eyes.

    "How was that!? Was it cool!? Did I look cool!?"

    "Ah... yes! Haruna is okay because of you. Thanks." She said with a smile, half sincere, and half petting Kiyoshimo's confidence a bit. For her bit, Kiyoshimo puffed up her chest in confidence.

    "A bit more experience like this, and I can match up to Musashi-san in no time!" She praised to herself.

    As I went to reclaim our wily little escort, the rest of Reserve arrived. Ordering them to spread out in a semi-circle, they teamed up with the Sendai sisters to form a dome of torpedoes. Firing in unison they fired wave after wave into the enemy. A minute later they had reloaded and fired again. The enemy had such numbers that even the massive wave of death couldn't push them back, combined with fire from myself and my remaining sisters, we were at least doing the job of holding the line. By virtue of being destroyers, the ones holding the line were incredibly hard to hit from range. Meanwhile the three on ASW duty were keeping the formation safe from submarines.

    This deadlock held for a good thirty minutes or so, before I could hear rumbling in the sky. A thunderstorm? Well that was going to be annoying... wait. It was getting louder. I looked out onto the horizon, and I saw a big black spot in the distance. Whatever it was, it kept getting closer and closer, and things got louder and louder, until I could finally see what it was; it looked like a giant plane of some kind! But... it didn't exactly look right. As it came closer, I could see chunks of it were missing. Holes in the hull were scattered around, and it was smoking. Pieces of paper were flaking off of it and leaving a trail behind it like exhaust. Was it even on our side?

    "What in the bloody hell is that!? I shouted to myself as it got even closer... and suddenly it started to make a dive for us! Suddenly a blast of static came in my ear even over the roar of this whatever-it-is, and the voice of the high flagship shouted.

    "GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

    I immediately commed everyone else in the area, and shouted in their ear just as Ryuujou had in mine.

    "EVERYONE, FALL BACK! NOW!" I shouted.

    Responding without a word, the entirety of Hammer and Reserve just turned and ran. We all ran as far back as we could with wounded in tow. As we ran, I looked over my shoulder in time to see the giant plane-thing come crashing down. It fell right into the middle of the mass of enemy ships as they futility shot at it to take it down... and down it went. An absolutely massive explosion went up right on top of them all in a bright flash.

    ...when our vision finally returned, there was nothing else left. Where the enemy was once pushing us back, there was only the sea aflame. I took the chance to order our Mutsuki-class girls to fully evacuate our heavily wounded Kakocchi and Chikuma. Afterwards I keyed to the Admiral.

    "It's over. Whatever... that thing was, it took them all out..." My words were completely lacking in any energy. I was just... so stunned by what happened. "Your orders?"

    "I see. Glad to hear you're all still in one piece. Any of Hammer and Reserve that you deem still combat worthy are to make their way to the Abyssal structure. Shadow Team should still be able to handle it, but backup is never a bad idea."

    "Yes sir." I responded. With the remaining members of my pieced together fleet, we started sailing towards our final objective.

    ====================
    Sword Fleet - Ryuujou
    ====================

    I drove Titanoktonon straight into the enemy mass. She had no way to fire her guns by the time she got there. The technique was incredibly strenuous on my body, and holding the technique aloft the entire time it took to get her where she needed to be, combined with the distance away from me, meant she was falling to pieces before she even got there. Blood had started running from my nose, and the corner of my mouth. That's how hard this was to use; I was controlling hundreds of thousands of shikigami at once, and all in strict unison, and my body was not meant to channel that kind of power, and it took it's toll.

    Still, she did what she needed to do. I weakly keyed in to report the success.

    "I... I did it, Dragonfly... I got 'em..."

    And with that, I fell backwards and passed out.

    ====================
    Shadow Team - Iku
    ====================

    It was chaotic at first when we were caught off guard, but eventually our numbers advantage played in our favor. Despite their homing torpedoes, the "Twins", as I named them, could only put out so many at once, and each of us could shoot just as many, and there were eight of us to their two. As we dodged through rocks and reef on the sea floor, we still took hits from the shockwaves, but with each near miss, we each fired back a storm of our own. What's more, the Twins couldn't stray too far from each other, it seemed. This played to our favor as they couldn't dodge nearly as well as we could, and they took hit after hit after hit. Too bad they were so damn tanky. It felt like they were just shrugging them off.

    An explosion to my left and below, as Imuya ducked through a rock formation to detonate a torpedo chasing her. Unfortunately, she couldn't get away enough as the explosion sent her down to the ocean floor. She bounced off another rock as it stabbed her in the back. Her swimsuit was torn in half down the middle, and some blood flowed from her back and her right side. Still, she wasn't out yet, as she still managed to launch a desperate counter spread of torpedoes. In the distance, I could see that Hachi wasn't faring too well herself either. Not as bad as Imuya, but her suit had some holes in it, and her long socks were pretty shredded. Nearby, Shioi had her ribbon destroyed, and her hair flowed freely. I myself had a bit of a bashed ankle, but was still pretty well off. I took the moment I had of being free to attack from above by launching a spread of six torpedoes at the Twins. They could only dodge so many of them, as four found a mark, and that one seemed to really have done it, as they were seriously starting to look hurt.

    The others saw this, and they launched a concentrated barrage of explosive death. When the sea clouds cleared, one of the twins was limp in the others' arms. With their power cut in half, I signaled the rest to attack full on. With only one enemy left, there was no way the remaining twin could stop eight of us. What followed might be considered bullying or overkill by some, but right now all that mattered was winning. We kept up our pressure, and eventually we simply overwhelmed the survivor through sheer brute force.

    The limp bodies of the Twins were still for a moment, before they unattached from their large riggings, and they both floated up to the surface lifelessly. The Admiral would want to get some more info on this new enemy, but right now the objective came first.

    As we surrounded the structure and got ready to take out the legs that held it up, I saw something out of the corner of my eye float down. I noticed it just in time to realize what it was. To my horror, a depth charge was barely an arm's length from my face. I had just enough time to cover my face before it exploded. It sent me down to the sea floor hard. My suit was in tatters, and I could feel some of my ribs crack. Around me, more explosions went up near the others. I couldn't see how many were hurt and how many got away in time, but once again, things were very bad. I checked my sonar, but there was nothing on the surface that could be attacking us. What the hell was... wait. One contact. A single contact registered on the surface, as more charges rained into the water from unseen sources. The only way that could be was from... no way. Launched from planes!?

    "What the hell are we dealing with now!?"

    Cliffhangars! I'm sorry!

    And gods I have been wanting to use this images for ages. Well over a year; ever since I envisioned this little battle. Just remove Akitsu Maru from the scene, and we've got what it was.

    I also tried something a bit new this time. Kongou's bolded words are her speaking English. And carrying over from earlier parts, any sentences in quotes and fully in italics are the character's thoughts.

    Been awhile since I got to say it, but questions, comments, and criticisms, please!

    @Emerald Acid

    Always good to see more of your work, although at this point i wonder if the abyss is empty as they have suffered heavy losses over a short period here and your own girls have to running on fumes themselves after all this intense combat.

    speaking of, RJ summoning a full scale kamikaze bomber was a surprise, kinda like those forbidden techniques you see all over the place might be a fitting point to have the abyssals be like "oh shit. Hold up. they can do that?' and give yourself some breathing space thematically. As well as you write action scenes they have to end sometime and i feel the Titian rocking up and exploding everything can help break things up a bit more. I think Rj's come to the aid of the others a few times already before she broke out the big guns there.

    That said, i don't know your ultimate plan here for the arc these last fee parts are aligned with, so if it all boils down to some kind of super secret plan i'll feel like a right muggins won't i? :D

    As for the Iku segment the arrival of enemy planes is of some concern and i wonder how they can get such accurate sonar data in order for their planes to drop so accurately. More abyssal bullshit i suppose, possibly due to the twins feeding them Intel somehow while submerged? That could explain their lack of mobility while underfire, if they have a radio mast up or something, or that could just be their twins thing and the abyssals just have dipping sonar or similar, who knows?

    @Lord Harrab They're certainly virtually out of units in the area.

    I've been wanting to do something with that one image every since I first saw it, simply because it's a really badass image, and it really fit for a "last resort desperation attack". With as much backfire as she took (and the impracticality of using it in a combat situation), it's something to only be used during extreme situations where the potential payoff is worth the backlash. She and the other carriers came to the rescue two other times, for sure. That's part of the role of the backline heavy artillery, after all.

    The arc should finally be finishing up in the next entry or two. No real 'super secret plan' per se, unless yu count my super secret plan to get new recruits for the base.

    As for the planes, well... we do know somebody who's planes were quite dangerous to Subs~

    Shadow Team - Iku
    ====================

    So frustrating. The final objective; our team's only objective was right in front of us and we couldn't do anything about it. Depth Charges were raining down absolutely everywhere. Whatever was attacking us was effectively carpet bombing the area. Those of us that were seriously hurt from the earlier fight dove down all the way to the ocean floor and hid; under rocky outcroppings, in coral fields, anything that could give even the slightest bit of overhead cover. The lack of motion hopefully obscuring them from whatever was attacking us. The rest of us scattered to the waves to spread out the explosives as much as possible. Finding even a moment's respite was a godsend, but even then there was no break. We would do our best to launch torpedoes up to the surface during any break in hopes of stopping this attack, although so far they hadn't had any significant impact.

    I had just fired off another torpedo and began to move out to start dodging again, when I realized I made a big mistake. I had gotten into a pattern. Dodge, fire, and dodge again. Going around the central point of the tower. I got complacent in my pattern that I thought was safe, and I made myself predictable. As I made my way to dodge, I had run right into a cloud of charges already dropped. I instinctively turned back to get away, only to find the charges I had just dodged right behind me. There was no way out. I curled up and braced myself as best I could.

    "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

    I hit the seafloor hard, again. The vibrations from the charges rocked my body. More ribs broke, my vision was a fuzzy cloud, and I could feel my suit disintegrate. Aside from a few patches, I was essentially naked. Normally I'd like that, but right now it was the furthest thing from my mind. Everything hurt and I was bleeding all over. I felt myself start to rise up like a dead fish, but I managed to grab the base of the Abyssal tower as I did, and managed to forcefully pull myself downwards to the floor. The fact that the very thing we were here to destroy might just prolong my life was an irony that infuriated me.

    My vision was coming back, and I could vaguely see the other girls trying to get to me, but more charges were preventing them from helping. Something had to change though; I couldn't stay down here forever; not anymore. All the damage I've taken is taking its toll on me, and if I stayed down here for too long, the pressure would crush me. I looked up towards the surface for something; anything. I needed a plan. We needed-

    -Bwoooooooooooooooooooom-

    The ocean above distorted horribly with vibrations. Something massive had exploded on the surface. But what?

    ====================
    Hammer Fleet - Kongou
    ====================

    "All ships! Open all barrels! FIYAAAH!"

    After finally being freed from holding the line against the Abyssal defenders, all of us from Hammer, Shield, and Reserve that were still fit to fight had rushed full ahead to where the tower was located. Escorting us were fighters and bombers from the four remaining carriers of Sword. Ryuujou had taken herself out of the fight with whatever the hell she did to summon that monster plane, and was currently unconscious in the radar boat with the admiral. He had a bad feeling about the tower still standing with no visible disruptions, so we all sped in.

    It seems his feeling was right, as when we approached, we saw the sky around the tower abuzz with a swarm of what looked like flies at a distance. As we got closer, we saw that they were much bigger; like some kind of mutant birds. Whatever they were, they were dropping things into the water all around the tower. Judging by the ripples and vibrations a few seconds after each drop, they were depth charges. And that was a problem. In the middle of it all was the Abyssal tower, and nearby, we saw only a single small girl. The signature colorless white skin of a humanoid Abyssal. She was staring down into the waters below her, her eyes looking and tracking every which way, and changing at a moment's notice like she was tracking movement. Whoever she was, she was obviously the cause of all this, so I ordered an immediate attack.

    Every ship with a working gun opened fire simultaneously, and she just vanished in a cloud of fire and smoke. Our fighter escorts immediately went to work hunting down and removing those bird creatures from existence. When the smoke cloud cleared, the girl was on all fours, visibly hurt badly. She looked up to us, seeing us for the first time, before the carrier bombers swooped in for the final blow. Whoever she was, she was completely gone now. A few moments later, an equally small girl floated to the surface, unconscious. A scan of the area by the escort planes located and confirmed the unconscious bodies of two more girls underneath the tower itself.

    "So there were more of them waiting here. At least Hime-class or stronger. No bodies of our girls though, so that's at least a good sign. They have to be down there somewhere still."

    I ordered those with free hands to collect the three motionless girls, before having everyone back away from the tower. Once we were away, I keyed the comm. to Shadow. We were supposed to keep them on radio silence, so hopefully the fact that I contacted them was a sign that it was safe for them to finish the job.

    "Shadow, this is Hammer. You're clear and good to go. Make it a big one, okay?"

    ====================
    Shadow Team - Iku
    ====================

    "Shadow, this is Hammer. You're clear and good to go. Make it a big one, okay?" I heard over the communicator as I tried to figure out what exploded up top. It seems I owed our fleet's battleship leader a thanks and some boxes of tea packs. We all owed her one.

    In pain but still able to move now, I managed to signal the rest of the girls in my team as they came out of hiding and in from the distance. We circled the tower, and on my signal we all blasted the legs and support structure of the thing all at once. Metal groaned and warped from the explosions. A moment longer, and the legs shattered, and the tower started to collapse under its own weight. We swam away, clear of ground zero. After a long ordeal, the mission was complete.

    ====================
    Radar Boat - Emerald
    ====================

    The operation was over, finally. Things were far more difficult than what I expected them to be, and from what HQ expected too, seeing as this was only a solo operation in HQ-controlled waters. A few extra battleships would have been nice, but there was no time to send the request. No matter though, because we managed it in the end, albeit at a bit of a painful cost. A lot of girls were docked back at HQ, with more waiting in line. But they were all safe, which is what mattered. As the remaining girls from all the active fleets all arrived at my location, I smiled as I saw all their faces return. A trio of newcomers I didn't recognize looked like promising recruits later, and they were loaded up onto the boat along with Ryuu. I also helped my original secretary and flagship into the boat as well. Her body was in terrible shape and was in no position to keep swimming. She took position at the first passenger's seat as I stood and walked to the bow to address everyone.

    "Well done, ladies. You completed the objective admirably, and more importantly you completed the most important, true objective. You all came to the aid and protected each other, and you all returned alive. Nothing is more important than that. We're gonna be holed up at HQ for the next day or so, but once everyone is at least able to move on their own... let's go home. You've all earned a damn good vacation.

    Now, let's get ashore. I've got a long report to make, and we've got girls to help still. Let's move."

    "Aye!" They all responded in unison.

    With that, I started up the engine and led everyone back to the path that would eventually lead us home."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    And thus we finally reach the image that first started this whole entire story arc. Honestly, this took way longer than it ever should, but this story was made up of so many smaller disconnected stories that I had to manually put together into one single arc line that it took a pretty big toll on me. I feel bad for how long this took since I owe what few readers I have (or still have) better, but this project had a lot of burnout and motivational issues on me. All that said, I'm very glad to finally have finished it. I only hope the remaining readers like it too. I know this chapter was a smaller one, so I hope it doesn't come across as rushed or forced.

    Comments, questions, and criticisms, please!

    A lovely Part as always, short or long, at least you're updating :P

    A few thoughts and suggestions in no particular order.

    I find the submarine girls actions rather fascinating in this part, my own somewhat limited knowledge of ww2 submarine tactics makes me think they should either go silent and still and hope the enemy loses interest, or just full power book it out of the AO, instead they act like, well, people and living things would, they grab cover and bunker down and Iku well, Ikus actions were pretty badass. again they fact she sinks down to the bottom indicates a crash dive or, i shudder to think, irreparable ballast tank damage and passing her crush depth.

    But, again she's not just a sub anymore her use of the enemy tower to stabilize herself a clever move and i chuckled at the thought she was like "oh hey i'm naked, sweet. oh wait no that's bad right now."

    Kongou part, usual boisterous kongou kicking ass in all her finery minor problem with the "open all gun barrels part." which i guess is a simple error as i don't think she'd be traveling with shrouded guns at this point.

    Other than that, it was a succinct tidy wrap up of the battle that has so far raged for a long time. The girls must be tired.

    @Lord Harrab Yey, thread traffic.

    Iku was forcefully pulling herself down to the floor pretty much because the other option was being pulled to the surface in a Dead Man's Float, and that's probably the last place she wants to be when the person trying to kill her is up there.

    Kongou's bit was mainly taken from one of her two attack lines, so any historical or logical inconsistencies would have just happened. No real meaning behind them.
    And yey, glad to know there are still some people who read my stuff.

    Building Bridges with Boats (Early heads up: original characters and crossover characters in this chapter)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Rabaul. It was nice to be back home, or second home as it were. It had been a month or so since the big operation, and things had more ore less settled down. The girls had all recovered from their injuries, and were enjoying a relatively peaceful reprise; nothing more than daily patrols and exercises. My base had some new faces as well: Two submarine sisters and an escort carrier specializing in anti-submarine warfare were acclimating to the base well; the purified results of the Hime-class Abyssals we had fought guarding the tower. And one more Submarine transfer as well; a sister sub to I-401 Shioi, her lead-class sister I-400 Shion. Together, the new submarines, I-13 Hitomi, I-14 Iyo, and Shion, with Shioi apparently form the 1st Submarine Task Force. As fleet-mates and sister classes, Sentoku and Type AM, they got along right from the start, so it was nice to see Shioi was able to ease them in. The base's alcohol budget has been going up since their arrival, though.

    The escort carrier on the other hand, was a bit more timid. Introduced as Kasuga Maru, she thankfully found a familiar face when she saw Ryuu. Apparently they had served together in the past, after the former had been converted into the combat carrier Taiyou, and Ryuu addressed her as such. For the first few weeks, she was attached to Ryuu like a shadow, but eventually she managed to open up a bit more with the rest of the base. She was still a quiet girl, but much less timid.

    I had just finished breakfast with Ryuu and was settling into the office for the day, when I got a buzz on the comm. It was from the drydocks. Apparently there was a shipgirl that nobody recognized that had arrived. She said she was carrying a message for me. I told them to send her up, and waited. After a bit the mystery girl comes into the office. She had white hair in long twintails that reached her hips, red eyes, and a black 'outfit' that looked more like pieces of cloth tied across her with strings. Little bat wing accessories were attached to the skirt. She looked at me with a smile, and handed me a note without a word.

    ...a note completely in English. I couldn't read a word of this, and considering that the girl is just smiling at me, I don't think I could ask her to translate it for me; I'm not sure if she speaks Japanese or not. That wasn't going to stop me though. I had just the thing for this.

    "Pardon me for a moment." I told both Ryuu and my visitor. I poked my head out the window, looked in the general direction of the bigger ship dorms, and shouted out.

    "HEY KONGOU. YOUR ADMIRAL NEEDS YOU!"

    With that, I sat back down, and waited. About a minute later, the hallways started rumbling.

    -THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP-

    The sound of someone running full bore down the second floor hallway, slowly being accompanied by what sounded like a long-winded shout.

    "....eeeeeeee neeeeeeEEEEEEEDS MEEEEEEE!" in very loud english as the thumps got longer. Not a moment later, the doors burst open with enough force to slam into the walls and bounce back, only to be shoved away once more. A disheveled and heavy breathing Kongou stood in the doorway for a moment before darting over to the desk.

    "I knew this day would come! So, where are we going? I know this lovely little tea shop in town and-"

    "Let me stop you there, Kongou." I interrupted before things got out of hand further. "Sorry. What I need is your help, if you don't mind. A favor, if you will."

    "Oh... I see..." She looked sullen at first, but perked up slightly at the mention of this being a favor.

    I handed her the note. After looking over it for a minute or so, she spoke back, translating it into the Japanese I understood.

    "Greetings, Admiral Emerald sir. My name is of little importance right now, and it is unlikely that you would have heard of it just yet, but I am of a high position in Fleet Command and I'd like to request a favor of sorts.

    This girl here is a girl who recently came into proper service as a Shipgirl; finishing her training and passing all criteria to join the battle on the seas here in Japan. Despite training here, she is actually a ship from the Royal British Navy of my homeland: the destroyer HMAS Vampire. She is due to be sent to a navy to begin her service in earnest, as unfortunately those here at Fleet Command deal in more large caliber ships and she wouldn't be able to operate under the same conditions. I heard from my dear Houshou that you're a local hero of sorts around these parts, and that you even requested aid from her in a recent large operation. As such and at her recommendation, I would like to send this girl to serve in your fleet as her service to the war. I feel she could learn much from such a tactician. She understands basic combat operations and codes, and is fluent in Japanese as a second language due to being trained here.

    She's quite like a daughter to me, so do make sure to take good care of her, please. Consider this request as the bill for renting our battleship docks here at command, eh chap?

    With Cheers,

    Lord Harrab, Chief Commander and Strategist of all Fleet Command Heavy Operations."

    "That's... quite the title he has. Nagatsuki did say she was taken to an office with a nameplate in english when she requested help, so I guess this is him." I figured.
    "And apparently you do speak Japanese?" I turned to the newcomer.

    "I do." She smiled and replied without issue.

    "Then how come you didn't say anything when you saw I couldn't read the note?"

    "I thought things would be more fun this way." She said very bluntly and cheerfully.

    "Oh..."

    "Oh! There's a PS on here as well." Kongou pointed out, before translating that as well.

    "P.S.: Do be aware that she's quite the tease, and a bit of a flirt. Cheers, mate."

    "I see that now..." I said as she just smiled and giggled at the P.S..

    "Well, I'll get you a room set up in the destroyer dorms. Training and exercise time are-"

    I was interrupted by the phone ringing. Apparently today was a popular day for me. I excused myself from the conversation again, and picked up the phone. About three or so minutes ticked off as I listened to the speaker and just answered a bunch of questions with a shorthand "Yes sir" or "No sir". Eventually the conversation ended, and after I hung up I slowly turned back to face the small group in my office.

    "So, what wassat about?" Ryuu curiously asked me.

    "Well, things are about to get a bit more lively. That was Fleet Command. Someone tell Inazuma we're going to have a lot more company than Miss Vampire here. It seems our success in the previous operation impressed the higher ups, and they're 'putting more faith in our abilities'... and apparently that means putting us in the position of diplomat since nobody else wanted that kind of pressure. We'll be receiving three more destroyers on the base here. These three coming from the recently strengthened Soviet Navy. No names were given, but these three girls are being sent to Japan as envoys of sorts; a good will gesture to make ties and garner support from us. We're to take them in and train them to fight alongside our own navy as an acceptance to this budding alliance. Fleet Command wants this to go over well to help network more globally against the Abyssals, and they'll be arriving in three days. So yeah... no pressure."

    "Oi..." Ryuu sighed.

    "Well, let's get started. Ryuu, you hold down the office here while I'm out. Kongou, you show our new friend Vampire around the base. I'll go find Inazuma and explain the whole situation. Might need to make a call back to Command as well. See if we can't have them send down Yuubari as well, at least for the first day. We might need some help dealing with foreign equipment at first, but Inazuma should be able to handle it later after being taught. Let's move."

    And with that, the day was afoot. Kongou and Vampire seemed to get along quite well, probably helped by the fact that Kongou was "British" as well, although I use that term for her loosely. On my end, I got a small chunk of the light ship dorms sectioned as the impromptu Foreign Dorm for the upcoming arrivals. Over the course of the next two days, Vampire was integrated into the fleet. She did well in training, and meshed in with the girls pretty quickly; a feat that I attributed to her more playful nature, although I hear she's already embarrassed some of the other girls as well by asking them certain types of questions just to get them to react. It seems the warning about being a tease was not to be overlooked.

    Eventually, the third day came. Inazuma, Ryuu, and myself were there to officially welcome the three newcomers, as well as a few other lookie-loos scattered about. As the newcomers arrived and landed in the drydock, we exchanged salutes, and Ryuu and I escorted them to the office for official introductions. Meanwhile, Yuubari did indeed come from Command as well, and she and Inazuma went off to the construction and development building so that Inazuma could help service any of the foreign equipment should the need arise.

    Over in the office, I took my seat and Ryuu took up station to my right. The three new girls took their turns introducing themselves to me officially. The first girl had short blonde hair, and a primarily blue-and-white uniform that they all shared. She gave another crisp salute and spoke in a very firm, serious demeanor.

    "I am destroyer VMF Гремящий, leader of this fleet. Apologize in advance for broken language. We not have time for full lessons in Japonees language."

    "Shouldn't be too much of a problem. I understood you well enough. But erm, your name kind of escaped me, sorry. Could you repeat it?" I asked to clarify.

    "Ah? Oh. Apologies again. That is our native language. In your language, it would be pronounced 'Gremyaschy'. We look forward to fighting alongside new comrades."

    "Likewise. I hope we can make this alliance work."

    The girl who called herself Gremyaschy nodded and backed away as the next girl came forward. She was notably taller than the other two, and also with blonde hair, but in a messier, longer style in low twintails. She wore a brown mantle over the uniform the girls shared, and it seemed to be monogrammed, or so I assumed. She gave a slightly lax salute as she approached. She didn't really seem one who was much on appearance or presentation. Maybe she just didn't care what others thought of her? Not a bad trait, at all.

    "Destroyer VMF Охотник. Pronounced 'Okhotnik' in your language. I know I look the taller, but I am still destroyer. You count on me for any potential raids. I have many gun." She said that last part with the smile of a hunter when it finds a fun prey to hunt.

    "For starters, it'll only be exercises and daily routines to get you adjusted to life here in Japan. But if this alliance goes well and you remain here as planned, there might just be some action yet."

    "Heh." She said with that same smile as she backed off as well, to make room for the third girl. Said girl had silver hair instead of the blonde of the other two. She was in the middle of the three in terms of height, and unlike the other two she wore a nice hat, with words stitched on that I couldn't understand. She walked up with a swing in her step, and saluted with a bit of a mischievous smile.

    "Destroyer Ленинград at your service. You can call me 'Leningrad'. I'm looking forward to serving here. I see many cute girls on the way in, mhmhmhm~"

    That giggle at the end, coupled with her expression very quickly reminded me of one other girl here on the base. A certain submarine who had been the first one to ever come across me. I got the feeling that those two would get along quite well, with activities I'd be better off not ever documenting...

    "Well, here's hoping I can provide a comfortable and enjoyable environment for you all." I finally responded. As the final girl backed off, I spoke one last time myself.
    "We have a section of the destroyer dorms here set up as dorms for foreigners all prepared for you. The rooms are two girls per room, and you are permitted to decorate them how you will, in case you wanted to bring a bit of your home with you to here. We do have one other girl staying in there as well; a destroyer from the Royal Navy. I can arrange for separate rooms if you wouldn't be okay with her, but would you be against sharing a room with her, miss Leningrad?"

    "Is she cute?"

    "Well... I'm not one in a position to pass judgement like that, but in my honest opinion... yes."

    "Mhmhm~, then it's fine by me~"

    I was slightly concerned by the implication there, but maybe getting a taste of her own medicine would make Vampire calm down some with the teasing of her own... or it might go in the complete opposite direction and they both play off each other's personalities. A worrying thought, but time would tell.

    "Very well then. Our second-in-command is down in the armory right now studying up on your equipment. Head down there after this and secure your stuff when all is finished. She's also the one in charge of the destroyer dorms, so it would be a good idea to introduce yourselves to her and make a good impression, as she kinda runs that place. After you secure your gear in your designated rooms, you are free to explore the base for the remainder of today. Your first day of integration training and exercise starts tomorrow, so enjoy the scenery while it lasts. Dismissed."

    The five of us all traded one final salute, before the three Russian ladies left the room. I sat back down in my chair to finish up the final bits of paperwork for them to join us officially.

    "Things are going to be interesting indeed." I offhandedly spoke to Ryuu as I worked. As one final thought dawned on me, I looked up to stare out at nothing in particular.

    "...I sure hope they eat Japanese food..."

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Goodness. How long as it been since the last chapter? Motivation has really been hard to find these days...

    Ever since my friend @Greythorn032 came up with his own OC designs for the Russian ships (one of which I helped with), I had really been wanting to bring them into the universe here. I think the designs are really well thought out and I easily consider them just as official as any of the canon shipgirls, personally.

    As for the Bri
    tish ship, she's very clearly meant to be the Azur Lane depiction of HMS Vampire, who is by far and away my favorite of that game's girls, and the reason I even started playing it, so it naturally progressed to where I would want to bring her in during a foreign acquisition chapter as well.

    As for the new girls from the start of the chapter, initially it was only supposed to be the twins, but as I delayed longer and longer with my writing, more ships got added that I definitely wanted to get added into here as well. It resulted in quite a lot of new faces overall, but not enough to the point that I personally think it's being intrusive to others.

    This is only a set-up chapter, unfortunately. Actual action involving the new girls will come next time. Until then, I hope for questions, comments, and so on!

    And I thought my first major expansion was large with seven ships in a row. Parts are certainly going to get more lively with some more tricksters in the mix.

    Much like how you enjoy seeing my Yuubari's geeky otaku-ness, Kongou's boisterous behavior never fails to make me smile. And our mutual friend Harrab is quite the higher-up it seems...I'll make a note of that for later.

    I never pegged Admiral Emerald as someone who did not know English for some reason...But looking back, it makes some sense with his backstory. Guess I just stuck him as more of a foreigner than I should have.

    I feel you on the lack of motivation, but inspiration can be rather fickle in general. And while I may not post much at all here, I do read everything in a (relatively) timely manner. So don't get too discouraged and continue to shape your little pocket of the 'verse. Who else is going to, really?

    @Observer 39 Yeah, the fact that only the Twins were supposed to be the newcomers shows just how long I ended up procrastinating on that much longer arc before. By the time it was all said and done, two more potatoes had been added. I even considered adding Luigi as well, since she's a submarine, but I felt like I was getting far too greedy as it was, even though I already have the German wolf pup.

    I do enjoy writing Kongou out to be colorful. She's just an energetic and excitable girl, and she's fun to write for, even if she can't actually get who she wants here. I really liked this one though, since it was a moment out of combat where she could really just be her goofy self. Glad she comes across well. Also, I hope yu don't mind that I borrowed Yuubari for a bit off-screen. Felt it might be ok since technically she works for Command and just tends to hang out at your base when she's not on-the-job at Command. Her "Home away from home" as yu put it.

    I wanted Harrab to have at least a somewhat notable and impactful role in the universe. Since he didn't really have anything to write in as a full scale base owner that he had made for himself, I felt his like for the big ships combined with the fact that we both head-canon the really big ships as under direct control of Command, rather than any individual base, to be a fitting role for him. This way he's still influential and notable despite not having a base of his own like Retro and Zalf do. In my opinion, at least.

    The foreign thing is probably because I've mentioned basing him on the idea of my "ideal self alter ego", so he probably comes across somewhat like myself and thus would know english like I do personally. But yeah, in this universe he's definitely a full japanese local (with adventure under his belt, but still).

    And thanks for that. It really does mean something to me. I know I do have a few readers that consistently stick around and read when I put out something new, even if they don't post here. I know I shouldn't worry, but my self-esteem issues just tend to get the better of me there. I'll still continue to write, because shaping my head-canon further makes me happy, and sharing it with others even moreso. Although I can't promise the pacing will improve any >.>

    Since @Emerald Acid decided to put my original Soviet / Imperial Russian Navy shipgirls in his story(which I never expected) I thought it'd be good to show how do they exactly look, to anyone who reads.

    Starting from left, "Gremyashchiy(Гремящий, meaning: thunderous)", was the sixth ship of Project 7 destroyer series launched on 12 March 1937 at the Zhdanov Yard in Leningrad. Construction began on 23 July 1936, and she began operations within the Baltic Fleet on 28 August 1939, while later being transferred to the Soviet Northern Fleet in 1941. She took part in numerous ground support and convoy escort operations while in the Northern Fleet, alongside her sisters "Gromkiy(Громкий, loud)" and "Sokrushitelnyy(Сокрушительный, destructive)". It was these ships that made the lend-lease possible for the Soviet Russia.
    Since the Germans already failed to intercept a number of Allied convoys escorted by Project 7 destroyers, the Kriegsmarine was debating if they should send the battleship Tirpitz up to the Barents Sea in order to cut the lend-lease support for the Soviets. Gremyashchiy was supposed to be fighting against her, however thanks to HMS Campbeltown's successful raid on the dock of St. Nazaire, which was the only dock that's big enough to service Tirpitz, this never came to reality. Gremyashchiy was awarded with a "Guards" title in 1942. Decommissioned in 1957, she was expended as a nuclear bomb target that year.
    Gremyashchiy is the kind of Russian you can easily think of. She doesn't talk much, and never smiles in front of strangers. But once you start growing closer to her you'll know she has about the same amount of love as everyone else.

    "Leningrad(Ленинград, currently the city of Saint-Petersburg)" is the first warship built by the Soviets, hence the project number 1. Built as a destroyer leader she was quite big, measuring 127m in length. Commissioned into the Baltic Fleet in December 1936, She sailed to Tallinn on 22 October 1940 when the Soviet Union began to occupy Estonia. After the Winter War broke out, she and her sister Minsk(Project 38) bombarded Finnish coastal defense positions on Saarenpää Island, part of the Beryozovye Islands on 10 December 1939 and again on 30 December–3 January 1940. The beginning of Operation Barbarossa found Leningrad and Minsk in Tallinn and they were ordered to cover mine-laying operations at the entrance to the Gulf of Finland between Hanko and Osmussaar on 23 June. Both ships bombarded German positions surrounding Tallinn 23–27 August and participated in the evacuation of Tallinn from Tallinn to Leningrad at the end of August 1941. Minsk was sunk in Kronstadt harbor by Junkers Ju 87 dive-bombers of StG 2 on 23 September. She was later salvaged and recommissioned on 22 June 1943. Leningrad was part of the third evacuation convoy from Hanko to Leningrad from 9–12 December, but was forced to turn back by damage from nearby mine explosions. For most of the rest of the war, both destroyers were blockaded in Leningrad and Kronstadt by Axis minefields and could only provide gunfire support for the defenders during the Siege of Leningrad. She was decommisioned in 1936 - before Gremyashchiy was even launched - and sunk as a missile target in 1963.
    Leningrad is big, fast(even more than Shimakaze, busting 40 knots at full load), and is a prankster who likes to tease virtually anyone she's interested in. When duty calls however, she's the one who willingly leads the flotilla and brings in the victory.

    "Okhotnik(Охотник, or Охотникъ, as that's how her name was written back then. It means "hunter")" is the oldest one of the trio. Her design itself is a fun story. In early 1917, the Imperial Russian Naval Technical Board recognized the need to introduce high-speed “cruiser-killers” into the Baltic Fleet, in order to counter the increasing threat of Imperial German capital-ships. After further consideration, it was decided to focus upon a destroyer platform for the new project, as destroyers are relatively inexpensive to construct and re-arm to sizeable numbers. Further specifications outlined the role these new “destroyer-suppressors” were to play: anti-capital ship combat, high-speed reconnaissance, and mine-laying abilities; in short, a light multi-purpose high-speed warship. For all intents and purposes, what we consider to be the roles of modern destroyers. To put her design story simple, start from modifying the already existing then-new destroyer class "Gavriil(Гавриил, 1915)". You need more guns but there's no more room on the deck. So what do you do? Stretch the hull. You need a lot. Stretch more. Don't forget to add eight more bulkheads to reinforce the long hull, as there are only twelve of them. And boom, you have a hilariously long hull that can harness seven 130mm guns and three 450mm triple torpedo tubes(There's one more set of torpedo tubes in the game World of Warships; but historically she had only three) all in a line. The design was finalized by late 1917 and presented to the Board. To their astonishment at the outlandish proposal, many were quoted to calling her a “hunter” or a “killer”, and the name forever stuck. It was an ambitious design; many would consider her ahead of her time. A destroyer that was more so a light cruiser by form, she attempted to merge the flexibility of a larger capital ship into compact construction. The problem of fitting high-power propulsion into a compact chassis was not successfully solved until post 1940s, when propulsion technologies advanced to the point where it was feasible to mount superheated boilers and multi-gear turbines into a hull the size of a destroyer. As the design being borderline impractical for that time, she was never built in steel and only remains as a sketch.
    Okhotnik is the kind of tomboy who doesn't really care about her own appearance but something fun to break. She strikes only when the chance comes, and likes to absolutely dominate her "games" with her seven guns and nine torpedoes.
