Speaking of Wolfsbane, there's another neat little reference to her design (LN spoilers follow):

    [+] Spoiler
So the enemy flower knights who feature in the first three LNs share the theme of negative flower meanings: Nepenthes, the corrupted knight who is the main enemy of the first LN, has "sweet trap" as her meaning, while the third LN's Mandragora and Redbud stand for "horror" and "betrayal" (Judas is said to have hanged himself from a redbud tree, so they're also known as Judas trees).

Wolfsbane's "hatred" fits this mold, which makes sense because (as far as I can gather) she was an unwitting accomplice in Mandragora's plans in the second LN, though she is saved and becomes a flower knight thanks to Chocosmos.

@jdoe I'm surprised you or anyone else actually sat down and read through even one of those LNs... I was so bored with the 2nd one that I can't bear the thought of even opening that book again.

Oh, I don't have the books, unfortunately, and I'm not good enough to read them in less than a decade anyway (the only part that I actually went through was an excerpt from Cocklebur's novel, I think it was about Garden Peony joining some kind of ball game and accidentally wiping the floor with everyone since flower knights are inhumanly strong). I just pick up bits and pieces from blogs and the wiki.

But I appreciate the LN series since it has given us Oxygyne, who is not only the second-ever mycoheterotroph in the game, but also plays into it with her mushroom chef theme (and is such a recent discovery that the paper describing it came out in 2008). The flower language connections are cool too, another set that I enjoy is the researcher squad all having intelligence-related meanings: Rosemary's "remembrance", Lacquer Tree's "clear mind", Horse Chestnut's "innate talent", and the unimplemented Plane Tree's "genius".
